LOWVILLE — Sheriff’s deputies charged Jacob D. Gearhard, 25, of 7686 Park Ave., on charges of second-degree assault, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, on May 18.

The charges stem from an incident where a five-year-old child was in the care of Mr. Gearhard at a residence on Fuller Road in the town of Denmark on June 8. According to police, Mr. Gearhard, with intent, caused physical injury to the child consisting of a fractured femur bone.

The Child Advocacy Center of NNY and the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse assisted with the investigation.

Gearhard’s bail was set at $5,000 cash and he was remanded back to the Jefferson County jail where he is being held on unrelated charges.
