High school roundup: Carthage rises past Lowville for 76th straight victory

LOWVILLE — The Carthage volleyball team extended its winning streak to 76 consecutive matches as it held off Lowville — 26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 25-21 — in a Frontier League crossover match Saturday evening.

Mia Pariona led the charge for the Comets (16-0 overall, 15-0 league) with 19 kills and six aces, while Courtney Benson added 12 kills and five aces. MiKenzie Martens logged 19 assists and four kills, and Megan Raap made 18 assists.

Ashton Houppert tallied 12 service points and 20 assists, Maryam Kirch collected 17 service points and 13 digs, and Elana Hoppel added 11 kills and 13 digs for the Red Raiders (9-6).

GENERAL BROWN 3, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 2

Mia Weishew served for 14 points, including three aces, as General Brown outlasted Belleville Henderson 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 18-25, 25-14 to claim its first win of the season, at Dexter.

Marissa Phillips added 13 service points, including four aces, and three kills for the Lions (1-14, 1-13). Kimberly Zenyuk supplied 11 points and five aces. Kaitlyn Gaffney registered nine points and seven digs.

INDIAN RIVER 3, THOUSAND ISLANDS 0

On their senior night, the Warriors swept the Vikings 25-13, 25-13, 27-25 in a crossover match at Philadelphia.

Senior Alexzha Garcia produced 17 assists, 12 service points, four digs and three kills for Indian River (5-8), while Taylor Stewart scored 10 kills and four digs. Lois Norstrom made 10 digs and six service points.

Thousand Islands fell to 3-10 overall and in league.

BOYS HOCKEY

PLATTSBURGH 3, MASSENA 2

Tyler Reed and Grayson Giroux scored unanswered goals in the third period to lift the Hornets past the Raiders in a nonleague game at Massena.

Matt Derouchie scored Massena’s first goal and combined with Josh Underwood to set up a Patrick Barclay goal, which gave the Raiders a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Merrick Taraska made 17 saves for Massena (5-5-1), and Kyle Side finished with 18 stops for Plattsburgh (13-1).

WEBSTER-SCHROEDER 5, OFA 3

Connor Ball scored a tying goal and an empty-net tally as the Warriors erased a 3-2 Blue Devils lead in the final nine minutes of a nonleague game at Ogdensburg. Hunter Olsen scored the go-ahead goal.

Isaac Testani, Jackson Troiano and Broadie Woods scored for OFA (8-5-1).

MCQUAID 3, CANTON 2

Charlie Merkley, Alex Speto and Jeevan Deal scored unanswered goals in the third period to erase a 2-0 Canton lead in a nonleague game.

Troy Bessette scored twice in the second period for Canton, which received 36 saves from Jerrod Burchell.

GIRLS HOCKEY

PLATTSBURGH 1, MALONE 1

Taylor Hackett of Plattsburgh (5-7-4, 1-2-3) and Kerrigan Rondeau of Malone (5-9-4, 1-3-2) traded goals in a Section 7 tie in Malone.

SALMON RIVER 5, ITHACA 0

Lexi Lazore scored two goals as Salmon River (12-2-1) scored a nonleague shutout over Ithaca (12-3-2).

Karlie St. Ann, Brycelan Sunday and Karkwenhawe White also scored for the Shamrocks. Carlie Cartier made 20 saves in the shutout.
