POTSDAM — Vinny Guimond scored at 7 minutes, 27 seconds of the third period to help the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team open the season with a 3-3 tie against St. Michael’s in a nonconference game Friday at Maxcy Hall.

St. Michael’s fell behind 2-1 but scored two goals in the final 3 minutes, 50 seconds of the second period to take a 3-2 lead on shots from Sam D’Antuono and Patrick Doherty.

Joey Sollazzo and Mike Sweeney scored for the Bears and Brandon Mitchell scored the first goal for St. Michael’s.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

SUNY POTSDAM 3, ST. MICHAEL’S 0

Jenna Patterson and Brenna Wilson each provided a goal and an assist as the Bears blanked the Purple Knights in the nonconference season opener for both teams in Colchester, Vt.

Samantha White stopped all 16 shots she faced for SUNY Potsdam (1-0).

Nicole Talcott made 27 saves for St. Michael’s (0-1).

VOLLEYBALL

CLARKSON 3, BUFFALO STATE 0

Delaney Harrison picked up 10 kills as Clarkson (17-7) knocked off Buffalo State in a nonconference game in Buffalo.

Harrison also led Clarkson with 11 1/2 service points and Kendall Cheval added 10 1/2.

SKIDMORE 3, SUNY POTSDAM 0

Catie Canfield generated 13 kills, 13 digs and four assists as the Thoroughbreds swept the Bears, 25-20, 25-15, 25-16, in the opening match of the Skidmore Invitational in Saratoga Springs.

Lauren Wolters dished out 37 assists for Skidmore (16-9).

Brianna Rooda totaled 25 assists and eight digs for SUNY Potsdam (11-16).

SUNY CANTON GETS SPLIT

Peyton Robinson totaled 64 assists between two matches as the Kangaroos split a pair of matches at the Highlander Invitational at Houghton.

Robinson handed out 48 assists in the SUNY Canton (10-19) victory over Houghton, 18-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20.

SUNY Geneseo beat SUNY Canton 25-14, 25-11, 26-24 in the opening match.

FIELD HOCKEY

ST. LAWRENCE 9, WELLS 2

Bailey Sherwin totaled two goals and an assist as the Saints wrapped up the season with a rout of the Express at Canton.

Molly Wood added a goal and an assist for St. Lawrence (6-11).

Kate Wells and Alyssa Rocas each scored for Wells (2-15).

SWIMMING AND DIVING

SAINTS SPLIT

Amanda Meurer won three individual events and swam on the winning 200-yard medley relay as SLU’s women defeated Skidmore 155-136 in Saratoga Springs.

Meurer won the 200 butterfly, the 100 freestyle and the 100 butterfly.

SLU’s men fell to Skidmore 161-117 but diver Matthew Edkins made NCAA Division III qualifying marks in the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions, winning both. He scored 293.55 points in the 3-meter and 293.25 in the 1-meter.
