High school roundup: Harrisville boys soccer protects spot at top; Canton swimmers defeat Potsdam

HARRISVILLE — Nate Woodward made five saves to lead the Harrisville boys soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Heuvelton on Tuesday, keeping the Pirates alone in first place in the Northern Athletic Conference West Division.

Jadon Sullivan and Dalton Church both scored one goal and assisted on another for the Pirates (7-0-1 overall, 5-0 division). Joseph Peabody and Ryan Weaver also scored for Harrisville.

Heuvelton fell to 5-2-1 and 3-1.

EDWARDS-KNOX 3, MORRISTOWN 2 (OT)

Zach Scott scored all three goals for the Cougars (1-6-1, 1-3-1), including the game-winner in overtime, in a West Division win over Morristown in Russell.

The Green Rockets (0-7, 0-5) scored two goals in the first four minutes off shots from Masen LaPiene and Gage Fox. Scott scored goals in the 10th and 32nd minutes to tie the game.

ST. LAWRENCE 3, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 1

Noah Rijnders assisted on two goals to lead St. Lawrence Central in an East Division game in Norwood.

Matthew Burg, Andrew Lantry and Trent Dow scored for the Larries (5-2).

Trent Tatom scored for Norwood-Norfolk (2-7, 1-6).

GIRLS SOCCER

EDWARDS-KNOX 6, MORRISTOWN 0

Alexa White made four saves to lead the Cougars past the Green Rockets (1-8, 1-5) in a West Division game in Morristown.

Koryn Rowe and Abigail Hart each scored two goals for Edwards-Knox (9-0, 7-0). Emily Lasher and Kyanne Jeanette also scored.

SWIMMING

CANTON 104, POTSDAM 66

Emily Wentworth, Isabella Jaskowski, Julia Domena and Sophia Silver each won two events to lead Canton past Potsdam (4-2) in a Northern Athletic Conference meet at Clarkson. It was the 69th straight dual win for Canton (4-0).

Wentworth won the 50-meter freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Jaskowski finished first in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Domena claimed the 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley and Silver finished first in the 200 and 400 freestyles.

MALONE 56, MASSENA 38

Madison West and Emma Dumas each won two events to lead the Huskies past the Red Raiders (2-3) in Malone.

West won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle for Malone (5-1). Dumas won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

VOLLEYBALL

SALMON RIVER 3, MALONE 0

Fawn Jacobs scored 13 points and Jazzy Dunn added 12 as Salmon River picked up a 25-15, 25-15, 25-9 sweep of the Huskies (1-6, 1-4) in an East Division match in Fort Covington.

Tyana Benedict scored 10 points for the Shamrocks (3-3, 3-2).

POSTPONEMENTS

11 more events called

A second straight day of extreme heat caused 11 events from the Section 10 schedule to be postponed Tuesday.

Boys and girls cross country meets at Canton and Gouverneur were each postponed. Malone and Potsdam were rescheduled to face the Canton boys and girls today while Brushton-Moira and Tupper Lake will meet in Gouverneur on Thursday.

Three boys and one girls soccer game were moved to today. The boys games scheduled for today are Parishville-Hopkinton at Brushton-Moira, Canton at Gouverneur and Salmon River at Malone. Malone is slated to play at Salmon River in a girls game today.

The Potsdam at Massena boys game postponed Tuesday will be made up on Oct. 10 and no date has been set to make up the Madrid-Waddington at St. Regis Falls boys soccer game.

Also postponed Tuesday was a Brushton-Moira at Tupper Lake volleyball game, which is now set for Oct. 6.
