WATSON — A town of Watson cottage was damaged by fire early Thursday afternoon.

Lowville firefighters at 12:06 p.m. were called to 6673 Pine Grove Road and requested mutual aid from 3-G and New Bremen firefighters.

The one-story cottage, which was unoccupied, sustained extensive fire damage and its contents were destroyed, but an unattached garage was saved, according to Lewis County Fire Coordinator Robert A. MacKenzie III.

One person was taken by Lewis County Search & Rescue to Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but thought to be electrical.

The structure, near the Chase Lake Road intersection, is owned by Susan R. Whalen, Rome, according to Lewis County property records.

A neighbor assisted emergency responders by plowing out the driveway, and the town of Watson Highway Department and National Grid also assisted at the scene.
