MASSENA — The Big Lots store in the Harte Haven Shopping Center is about to get bigger.
Officials with Massena HHSC, Inc., the company that owns and manages the Harte Haven Shopping Center, announced Thursday that Big Lots plans to expand into the departing Family Dollar store, as well as into additional space behind Family Dollar this spring. They said that will nearly double the size of their current store. The store currently occupies 25,000 square feet.
“Big Lots is one of America’s preeminent retailers and their commitment to almost double the size of their existing Massena store and transform it into their most current prototype in the Harte Haven Shopping Center is great news for Massena and St. Lawrence County. This is a 2018 New Year’s announcement that we can all truly celebrate,” Michael Wachs, a spokesman for Massena HHSC, Inc., said in a prepared statement.
“Their ‘ribbon cutting’ and the Grand Opening of their new state of the art prototype store this Spring will indeed be a winning day for the Harte Haven Shopping Center, for Massena and for St. Lawrence County and most importantly of all for all of the wonderful Big Lots customers,” he said.
Big Lots officials did not respond to a request for comment on Thursday.
The closeout merchandise store opened in the Harte Haven Shopping Center in August 1998. It sells housewares, hardware, jewelry, lawn and garden supplies and other items.
