POTSDAM — Nic Gregg recorded 26 points as the fourth-seeded Potsdam boys basketball team defeated No. 5 Gouverneur, 69-60, in the first round of the Section 10 Class B tournament on Monday night.

Zahir Purvis contributed 20 points for the Sandstoners (5-16), who will take on top-seeded Canton at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Connor Fenlong notched 23 points for the Wildcats (4-17).

WATERTOWN 50, IHC 34

Ryan Gallo netted 13 points as the host Cyclones topped the Cavaliers in the Frontier League “A” Division consolation game.

Ethan Baytos chipped in 12 points for Watertown (6-12).

Daniel Snow led all scorers with 21 points for Immaculate Heart Central (4-16).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 68, MARCELLUS 58 (OT)

Andrew Estal scored 25 points as the Spartans snapped a seven-game losing streak with an overtime non-league victory over the Mustangs in Adams.

Mitchell Scoville added 15 points for South Jefferson (11-8).

Connor Wixson paces Marcellus (9-11) with 15 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

CARTHAGE 43, WATERTOWN 40

Ericka James totaled a season-high 20 points as the Comets ended their campaign on a high note with their first win, edging the host Cyclones in the Frontier League “A” Division consolation game.

James added eight rebounds and three steals for Carthage (1-18).

Gabby Rarick netted 11 points for Watertown (6-14).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 68, CANTON 28

Alyssa Stevenson scored 13 points as the Spartans downed the Golden Bears in a nonleague game at Adams.

Jenna Zimmerman registered a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while Jackie Piddock provided 12 points for South Jefferson (19-1).

Sarah Sieminski paced Canton (13-7) with 12 points.

VOLLEYBALL

CHITTENANGO 3, S. JEFFERSON 0

Megan Mayer collected 18 kills and 10 digs as the top-seeded Bears swept the No. 8 Spartans, 25-12, 25-10, 25-17, in a Section 3 Class B quarterfinal at Chittenango.

Tyla Cutrie registered 13 kills, five blocks and two aces for Chittenango (18-2), which plays No. 5 Oneida in a semifinal at 7 p.m. in Clinton.

Kaitlyn Messler supplied five digs and two kills, while Jillian Hare added eight assists for South Jefferson (8-11).

BOYS HOCKEY

CANTON 2, POTSDAM 1 (ot)

Easton Butterfield scored one minute, 51 seconds into overtime as the Golden Bears took an NAC Division I matchup against the Sandstoners at Potsdam.

Jack Finnerty provided a goal and an assist for Canton (8-7-1, 5-3-1).

Nolan Towne’s second-period goal forced overtime for Potsdam (5-8-3, 1-6-1).

OFA 7, ISLANDERS 1

Jackson Troiano and Isaac Testani each put up two goals and two assists as the Blue Devils routed the Islanders in an NAC Division II game at Ogdensburg.

Jared Barr, Broc Morley and Zachry Thomas each chipped in a goal and an assist for Ogdensburg Free Academy (11-6-1, 8-4-1).

Mason Aubertine scored for the Islanders (8-11-1, 2-10-1).

ST. LAWRENCE 7, MALONE 0

Ian Bressett’s hat trick and Bransen Kinnear’s 14 saves led the Larries to a Division II shutout of the Huskies (4-11-4, 0-9-3) in Malone.

Carter Rose contributed a goal and an assist for St. Lawrence Central (13-5, 10-2).

SALMON RIVER 4, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 1

The Shamrocks received all four goals from different scorers as they topped the Flyers in Division II play at Fort Covington.

Cobie Cree, Matt Harvey, Raver Conners and Jacob Cook netted goals for Salmon River (13-4-1, 8-2-1).

Robert Voss registered the only goal for Norwood-Norfolk (7-7-1, 3-7-1).
