DEXTER — Chelsea VanTassel tossed her first no-hitter of the season as the General Brown’s softball team blanked Beaver River, 8-0, on Wednesday in a Frontier League crossover game.

VanTassel struck out nine and walked seven for the Lions (10-5, 8-3).

MacKenzie Goutremout went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Hannah Smithers and Lila Ward both hit two-run doubles.

Beaver River drops to 6-8 overall and 4-7 in league.

SANDY CREEK 5, S. JEFFERSON 3

Pitcher Carley Stoker recovered from some early inning miscues to strike out 10 of the last 12 batters she faced, Jasmyn Williams drove in the tie-breaking run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh, and the Comets upended the Spartans in a division crossover game in Adams.

Stoker, who picked up her ninth win of the year, delivered a two-run home run for Sandy Creek (11-1). Lainey Hathaway went 3-for-4 and added an RBI. McKenzie Cobb took the loss for the Spartans (11-4, 8-2), and Shauna Schafer drove in a run.

LOWVILLE 18, THOUSAND ISLANDS 1 (5)

Winning pitcher McKailey Lyndaker doubled twice, scored two runs and drove in four runs to spark the Red Raiders to an interdivisional victory over the Vikings in Lowville.

Lyndaker struck out 11 of the 15 batters she faced to register the win for Lowville (11-2, 9-2), which will host South Jefferson at 4:30 today with first place in the “B” Division on the line.

Sarah Hurley went 4-for-4 and scored three runs for the Red Raiders.

BASEBALL

South Jefferson 13, South Lewis 0

Will Lowe picked up his fifth win as he combined with Hunter LaClair and Hunter Benjamin for a four-hit shutout, propelling the Spartans to a crossover win over the Falcons at Turin.

The trio, which struck 10 batters overall, also each drove in two runs for South Jefferson (11-2, 10-2).

Tanner Chrzanowski hit a double for South Lewis (8-5, 8-5).

GENERAL BROWN 9, BEAVER RIVER 1

Jasper Russell doubled, singled and knocked in a pair of runs as the Lions defeated the Beavers in a division crossover game in Dexter.

RJ Monroe singled twice and drove in a run for General Brown (7-6, 5-6) and Joe Wargo collected two singles.

Logan Farney singled twice for Beaver River (10-7, 9-5).

GIRLS LACROSSE

South Jefferson 16, Ithaca 11

Mackenzie Alexander scored six goals and assisted on another as the Spartans defeated the Little Red (10-5) in a nonleague game at Ithaca.

Natalie Strough and Molly Hall both contributed three goals for South Jefferson (10-6). Sydney Roderick made eight assists and scored once as well.

GOLF

THOUSAND ISLANDS WINS LEAGUE

Matt Barton shot a 1-under-par 35 to lead Thousand Islands to a 7-0 victory over Watertown in a league match at C-Way Golf Club in Clayton.

Tyler Turgeon and Mike Wetterhahn each carded a 39 for the “C” Division champion Vikings (12-0).

Gabe LaFex shot a 37 to lead the Cyclones (6-3-1).

BOYS TENNIS

CARTHAGE COMPETES IN CLASS B

Carthage’s first doubles team of Giles Hayden and Tyler Hayden reached the semifinals in Section 3’s Class B sectional tournament at SUNY Cortland.

The Hayden brothers teamed up to defeat Homer’s Ethan Laundry and Matt Pelowski in the first round, 6-4, 6-2, and then bested New Hartford’s Matt Cioni and Austin Franklin in a quarterfinal match, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.

The pair was defeated in the semifinals by Jamesville-DeWitt’s Robert Dotterer and Peter Hatton, 6-0, 6-1.

Also from Carthage, Seth Landers lost to Dean Vlassis of Christian Brothers Academy in a first singles quarterfinal, 6-2, 6-0; Lelan O’Brien was defeated by Westhill’s Jackson Bradley in a second singles first-round match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; and Daniel Ko lost to Westhill’s Conor Mahoney, 6-0, 6-1, in a first-round third singles encounter.
