NETANYA, Israel — Salmon River brothers Ty Thompson scored a goal and Lyle Thompson added to assists as the Iroquois Nations held off Australia, 14-12, in the bronze medal game of the FIL Men’s World Lacrosse Championships on Friday night.
Austin Staats led the Iroquois Nationals with four goals and an assist. Former Syracuse University standout Randy Staats added a hat trick. Former Immaculate Heart Central standout and Carthage resident Mike Lazore also played for Iroquois.
Germany defeated the Philippines, 8-5, in the ninth-place game on Friday. The Philippines are coached by former longtime Carthage coach Kirk Ventiquattro. Former Comets players Tony Ventiquattro, Ben Gaebel and Rob Cross are assistants.
Korea beat Russia, 12-7, in the 35th-place game. Former Lowville player Andre Young played for the Russians.
In the title game, the United Stated edged Canada, 9-8, after Tom Schreiber scored with .02 seconds left.
