Local auto racing: O’Brien gets second straight 358 win at Can-Am

LAFARGEVILLE — Danny O’Brien took his second straight 25-lap 358-modified feature race Friday night at Can-Am Speedway.

O’Brien powered past Nick Webb on a lap 16 restart and led the rest of the way. Billy Dunn, Scott Webb, Ryan Arbuthnot and Jordan McCreadie rounded out the top five.

Other winners were Dave Rogers (sportsman), Shawn Kirby (pro street stock), Joe Orvis (thunder stock) and Kevin Warren (rookie sportsman).

■ Josh Marchese passed Bryce Norton on lap 12 to win the 20-lap legends division race to highlight Saturday’s action at Evans Mills Speedway. Dalton Rombough, Breanne Gilligan and Frank Sibley rounded out the top five. Bob Schroy (trucks), Vern LaFave (modified), Tim Dunn (sports compact), Josh Verne (thunder stock) and Coley Felber (bandolero) were also winners.

■ Chris Raabe fought back against the field and impending bad weather to take the 50-lap Memorial Cup 358-modified race Friday night at Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne. Raabe muscled past Tim Fuller on a lap-31 restart and held on for the win. Lee Ladouceur, Fuller, Lance Willix and Louie Jackson finished out the top five. Other winners included Brianna Ladouceur (sportsman), Deric Ellsworth, Jason Rose (novice sportsman) and Nick Perham (bandit).

■ Antwerp’s Jeff Cook took sixth in the 25-lap Empire Super Sprints race Saturday at Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Quebec. Port Leyden’s Dylan Swiernik finished in 14th, while Steve Poirer won the race.
