PHILADELPHIA — The Indian River Central School District will offer free shuttle services to and from the Magrath Sports Complex on Fort Drum for those who attend Trooper Joel R. Davis’s calling hours on Friday.
Trooper Davis, 36, was killed in the line of duty while responding to a deadly domestic incident in Theresa on Sunday. Justin D. Walters, 32, was charged in the death of his wife, Nichole V., 27, and Trooper Davis.
Trooper Davis graduated from Indian River High School in 1998 and was active in many sports there. He eventually became Commissioner of the Evans Mills Youth Baseball League and was active in all youth sports.
Public calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and buses will leave about every half-hour from the Indian River High School, middle school and intermediate school beginning at 3:30 p.m.
“We have a lot of very dedicated bus drivers,” said Assistant Superintendent Mary Anne Dobmeier, “and they see this as doing their part to honor the trooper.” Mrs. Dobmeier said that many of the bus drivers knew Joel Davis from his high school days.
His funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, also at the Magrath Sports Complex.
